Change in Venue

Hello Igniters and WTE Readers:
This is just a quick note to let you know that we will  be unable to have Ignite Cheyenne 3 at the Hynds building like we had planned.   Do not fear, though – We have secured the Atlas theater for the event, and there will be drinks served before and at intermission like last time.

We still have tickets left for the event.  If you haven’t gotten yours yet, head over to the Ignite Cheyenne 3 Ticket Page.  Tickets are still free, but to make sure we dont run out of seats, we need you to sign up for one.

Ignite Cheyenne 3 Charity Poll

For those of you that were with us for your last Ignite Cheyenne, you noticed that we tried to do something a bit different than the first one.  The Ignite Cheyenne team decided that we wanted to give back and try to help the community, so we asked all of our facebook friends to name some local charities and then we put a poll up on the website and had you all vote.  You all selected the LightsOn! Group, which is working to restore the hynds building in Downtown Cheyenne.

Because of your awesome contributions, (almost $400 raised!!) we were able to help out LightsOn! quite a bit.  We are looking to help someone else out this time, and once again, we want you to pick. Our rules are the same, the charity with the most votes will win, and if your preferred charity is not in the poll, feel free to add it. Like last time, we will coordinate things with the agency and figure out a method to make it very easy for you all to donate whatever the agency needs (if you wish, it will not be required) and deliver it to them. Happy voting, and polls will close on Friday, May 6 at 5 pm Sharp. Please get your vote in before then.

Polling has closed.

Thank You!

Once again, you all have proved how awesome you were with your attendance at Ignite Cheyenne 2.  Even though it was freezing out, we had almost 70 people attend the event.  We had great talks and great fun.   For those who got tickets and were unable to attend – we missed you, and hope that you are able to attend the next one (We are shooting for the Week of May 16, and will probably be Tuesday May 17 or Thursday May 19).

You all were a great crowd, and in case you missed it, here’s who was speaking:

  1. Andy Aldrich – Haiti, Love and Action
  2. Marylin Patton – Retirement: It’s not about the Money
  3. Anya Petersen-Frey  - Some road race in Alaska that’s pretty famous
  4. Rocky Case – Genocide and Political Violence–Has Society Learned Anything?!
  5. Angi Harper – Networking for the Shy
  6. Jeff Fruhwirth – It’s Not Just for 5th Grade Science Projects Anymore!
  7. Caleb Blomberg – Music
  8. Anthony Sara – It’s not a Spectator Sport, Participate!

Alan, our awesome sponsor at Wyoming Community Media is not quite done editing the videos yet.  Once he’s finished, we will put them up on our youtube page and let you know.

Amazing Community Support!

Also, for those of you who have been around Ignite Cheyenne for a while, you know we picked a charity this time around, LightsOn! Cheyenne.  We were able to raise $183 for LightsOn! Cheyenne.  Here’s what Glen had to say about you all after the event:

On behalf of LightsOn!, I want to thank you for your wonderful event and for making LightsOn! your charity.  We received $183.00 which will be match dollar for dollar.  The funds will go toward the rehabilitation of the Hynds and the establishment of an arts-education program in downtown.

We also took some pictures at the event, and you can check them out on our flickr account.

We had some awesome sponsors this time around.  Our main sponsor was

Wyoming Entrepreneur

and many other organizations came through with in-kind sponsorships.  They include Wyoming Community Media, Social Wyo, LCCC and the Cheyenne Visitors Bureau.

As always, if you’re looking to speak at the next one, drop us a line!

Ignite Cheyenne 2 Partner Charity

For those who have not been to the site in a while, here’s the deal:  We at Ignite Cheyenne wanted to give back to the community, so after the first Ignite Cheyenne, we thought we should help out a local charity.  We asked attendees (and other people we are connected with on facebook) and they provided us some charities that they are fond of in the area.  We put this to the test (via a poll on our website) and got input from all of you who are planning to come to Ignite Cheyenne 2.  We’ve collected all of your responses and a charity has been picked.

Thank you all for voting, and if your favorite charity was not picked, we are planning on doing this at future Ignites, so you need not worry.  We are rotating charities, so a charity may only win 1 time per year.  Our supported charity this month is:

LightsOn! Downtown

If you are unfamiliar with the group, you can check out their facebook page.  Here’s a snippet of their mission:

The purpose of the LightsOn! Group is to get lights on in vacant buildings in downtown Cheyenne by letting the arts lead the way in establishing a new economic anchor in Cheyenne based in education with programs located in empty buildings. The group believes that education + arts + empty buildings = new vitality in downtown Cheyenne.

After speaking with the LightsOn! Group, they let us know that they would take donations in the form of cash or check, or arrangements can be made for credit cards.  A person from LightsOn! will be around to talk a bit about the organization before the talks start, so if you’re looking for more info, you can get it there!

Remember, anything that we can do (and follow through with) will make a positive difference in our community.  No amount is too small!

We Want To Give Back!

The event organizers want to do something extra special for the next Ignite Cheyenne.  If you are friends with us on Facebook or follow us on twitter you’ve already caught wind of this, but not everyone does that.  We wanted to announce it here as well.  For the next Ignite Cheyenne (Feb 8, 2011 at The Plains Hotel, Get Tickets Here)  we would like to help out a charity in Cheyenne.  We will coordinate things with the agency and figure out a method to make it very easy for you all to donate whatever the agency needs (if you wish, it will not be required) and deliver it to them.  However, we don’t know who to help out this time (we plan on rotating the charity each event).  We want your suggestions on what charity to donate to.  Our only requirement is that the charity focuses its efforts in Cheyenne or Laramie County!

Polling has closed! Thanks for voting, results will be available soon.

Ignite Cheyenne 1 recap

Well, Ignite Cheyenne 1 is in the books! First, we would like to thank all those who were able to attend.  Without you, it would just be the 3 of us standing in front of a blank projector screen and probably looking pretty dopey.  We would also like to thank the speakers who made the night fun and enlightening.  In case you forgot who they were, here they are again:

  1. Nick Armstrong
  2. Steve Sears
  3. Jeff Fruhwirth
  4. Caleb Blomberg
  5. Wendy Madsen
  6. Scott Mattson
  7. Andy Aldrich

Unfortunately, one of our speakers had a problem come up last minute and was unable to attend.  We have talked to him and have decided to save his for Ignite Cheyenne 2. If you are interested in joining Anthony Sara as a speaker, let us know!

Finally, if it wasn’t for our sponsor, we probably would have been out in a parking lot somewhere hanging a sheet on an old building and trying to scream over traffic.
Thanks to LCCC for sponsoring our event.

Laramie County Community College

We took videos of all the Ignite Cheyenne talks, which we will post on our Youtube page.  They will be up by the end of the week.   If you missed out or were unable to attend, you can re-live all the action there!

Unfortunately, we didnt get pictures of everyone, but we did get a few.  Thanks to Nick Armstrong for taking these shots.

Steve Sears Speaking at Ignite Cheyenne

Andy Aldrich Speaking at Ignite Cheyenne

Wendy Madsen Speaking at Ignite Cheyenne 1

Scott Mattson Speaking at Ignite Cheyenne 1

Jeff Fruhwirth Speaking at Ignite Cheyenne

Once again, thank you all for coming, and we look forward to seeing you next time. Don’t forget to bring some friends!
